Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly announces appointment of new Director General to her Office

The Ombudsman and Information Commissioner Emily O'Reilly is pleased to announce that Ms Bernadette Mc Nally has been appointed as Director General to the Office of the Ombudsman, Information Commissioner and the Secretariat to the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPOC). Appointment was made by Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr Brendan Howlin T.D following a recommendation by the Top Level Appointments Commission.

Prior to her appointment, Ms Mc Nally worked as a Senior Investigator with the Ombudsman for three years. From 2004 to 2008 she held the position of Chief Therapist Advisor in the then Department of Health and Children. She has a BSc and MSc from Trinity College Dublin. In her earlier career she worked as a front line health professional and was later a Director of Therapy and Social Work services in St James's Hospital, Dublin. She is a native of Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.
