Online complaint form

There are several steps you must take in order to submit an online complaint to this Ombudsman.

Step 1- Can I make a complaint to the Ombudsman?(Find out if the Ombudsman is allowed to examine your complaint.)

Step 1 - Can I make a complaint to the Ombudsman?

Did you know? There are other Ombudsman Offices in Ireland, who deal with a wide range of issues. See here for a list of ‘Ombudsman Offices in Ireland’.
Also, the Citizens Information Board may be able to offer advice you on how to make complaints about many organisations in Ireland.

First we need to know if the Ombudsman is allowed to examine your complaint.

Here are examples of public bodies in Ireland which the Ombudsman is allowed to examine

  • Government departments such as the Departments of Social Protection and Agriculture, Food and Marine which are the current top two departments complained about and the Revenue Commissioners which is the next highest.
  • The HSE and agencies that are funded by the HSE.
  • A local Authority, such as a county, borough or town Council
  • Other State Bodies such as National Museums of Ireland.

You have selected an issue which the Ombudsman is not allowed to examine.
However, it is possible that the following organisation might be able to offer you further advice.

Before you submit a complaint to the Ombudsman you must do the following

  1. Contact the public body and ask them to consider your complaint.
  2. Lodge an appeal with the public body, if you are unhappy with their original decision.

Before the Ombudsman can examine your complaint you must first contact the public body concerned and tell them about your complaint. Then you should make an appeal to the public body if you are not satisfied with their way the dealt with your complaint.

We cannot accept any other format at this time. If you can please send us the final letter from the public body.

If your documents are in written format (letters etc), or the attachments are too big, please send them to us in the post. We will return original documents to you as soon as possible.
Remember, if you received a final letter from the public body, please include it in the post.
